We were SBC but not sold out to the convention in any way. Our church wasn’t full of convention people. We directly funded our own missionaries and our pastor had a negative experience at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary during its liberal days.

It deserves then, thorough, investigation.īecause I grew up in an independent-minded church, no one ever told me about the Cooperative Program of the Southern Baptist Convention. The Cooperative Program of the Southern Baptist Convention is funded by giving and administered by stewards. He modeled something to me – the importance of giving. As a carefree middle-class youth, I never knew how much was given but it made an impression on me every week to see my father put a check in the offering plate.

I grew up in a Southern Baptist church in a family that faithfully gave. I wasn’t baby-dedicated at my church on the 8 th day, but it was done within a few weeks.
